Thoughts on Pharaoh's Order to Execute Hebrew Babies

****Note: This post is intended to be an invitation to join me as I think through our sermon series and their connection to current events. Think of it as you hearing me "think out loud." This is not intended to be any type of prophetic statement, and it even ponders some assumptions concerning Satan's thoughts and emotions that the Bible does not address. This is not a thoroughly researched article. Just raw thoughts written out as I think them through. Enjoy! ******

Thoughts on Pharaoh's Order to Execute Hebrew Babies

The prophecy in Genesis 3:15 had Satan working overtime to thwart God's plan. The Seed of the Serpent would be ultimately defeated by the Seed of the Woman. This "seed" has both singular and collective meanings.

Singularly, this verse is saying that Satan would be defeated by a man born of a virgin ("seed" is passed down from the father, however, this prophecy claimed it would be the seed of a woman).

Collectively, this verse is referring to Satan's followers (all non-Christians) and Christ's followers (Israel in the Old Covenant, the Church in the New Covenant).

It's important to remember that Satan did not know how this prophecy would be fulfilled. He simply knew that this Seed would bring about his destruction.

If Satan could prevent this child from being born, he could delay--and maybe even completely prevent--God's judgment on him and his kingdom.

In Genesis 4 we see the birth of not one, but two children. Both of them are boys.

I imagine Satan's panic when Cain was born. The woman had a boy--and the prophecy referred to a man bruising Satan's head. Satan worked to fight the prophecy and successfully tempted Cain to murder his brother.

Mission accomplished: Cain was a seed of the Serpent through his murderous act, and Abel was dead.

This, however, did not delay God's plan at all. Neither Cain nor Abel were the prophesied (singular) Seed of the Woman, and Eve gave birth to Seth--along with other sons and daughters.

Mankind did as God commanded them: They were fruitful and multiplied. Population increased rapidly.

The Israeli Nation

As time wore on, Satan did not need to panic with the birth of every male child (I am only assuming he did--the Bible does not teach that specifically). God promised that the Messiah would come through Abraham, and Satan's efforts would then be focused on the Hebrew people.

This brings us to the events in Egypt.

Pharaoh, a seed of the Serpent as we discussed in previous posts, was afraid of the Hebrew people increasing in number.

While I do not have a verse to point you to (this post is simply intended to invite you in as I think through this topic), I believe that this was a physical manifestation of Satan's fear.

What I mean by that is this: Satan was afraid. As the Hebrew people grew in number, so did the chances of the Seed of the Woman being born to overthrow him and his wicked kingdom. As a result, Satan struck Pharaoh with the same fear.

The Hebrew people could join in Pharaoh's enemies to overthrow him and his kingdom.

The solution? Have every male child put to death.

The Birth of Christ

The true (singular) Seed of the Woman was born in Bethlehem to a virgin. Again in his fear, Satan used a human agent to order the execution of all the baby boys in Bethlehem.

Pharaoh feared the Hebrews would join his enemies if there was war. Herod feared that one of the children was a prophesied king who would replace him.

Like Moses, the Christchild was protected from death through the actions of his parents.

Just as Moses grew to deliver his people from bondage and lead them to the Promise Land, so too is Christ freeing us from bondage and leading us to the Promise Land.

On the cross, the serpent appeared to have the victory as Christ bled and died. However, through the resurrection, the serpent was defeated.

Abortion

Although Satan has been defeated, he has not yet been completely destroyed. His judgment day is coming, and he will be thrown into the Lake of Fire where he will spend all eternity as the target of God's wrath. He will receive divine justice for his sins.

As that day draws nearer, we see the (collective) seed of the serpent appearing to have victory over the (collective) seed of the woman--the Church.

And as we grow ever closer to the glorious day in which Christ comes back for his Bride, we see Satan ramping up the attacks in our world.

Once again we are seeing the mass execution of children, killing them before they are even born.

While this is not being ordered by any government, it is being allowed--and even encouraged. Satan has tricked young mothers into having their own children sacrificed (just as what happened in Baal worship ceremonies). The parents can then be "unburdened" by a child so that they can travel, build a career, and chase their dreams, engaging in child sacrifice to worship a false god--themselves.

Maybe the parents want to keep the child but have become convinced that they cannot provide a good life for the child. They are then tricked--even pressured--into sacrificing the child, convinced it is what's best for the baby.

We are seeing more babies murdered across the globe than at any other time in human history. Disguised with the term "Women's Healthcare" or "Reproductive Rights," our government allows unborn children to be executed.

Connecting the Dots

Two times in Scripture we see a mass execution of children ordered by governing authorities. Both of them were the result of fear. And in both circumstances, God raised up a deliverer to overthrow his enemies.

Are we at a time in human history where Satan is running scared? And if so, is God raising up a leader from within his church? Maybe he's raising up a generation of leaders.

While there are no more "deliverers" from a biblical perspective--Christ's work was sufficient--there will need to be strong leaders to guide the Church through the days of tribulation leading up to Christ's return.

Whether that day is near or far, I do not know.

What I do know is that children are being sacrificed openly and legally. I also know that the two times it happened in Scripture were just before two of the greatest displays of God overthrowing his enemies: Once with Moses leading Israel out of Egypt, and once with Christ leading his people out of the domain of darkness.

Is this happening now as God is preparing one final overthrow of his enemies, establishing his kingdom in the New Jerusalem, and leading his people into his presence?

Again, I do not know. This is just an attempt to invite you in as I think through biblical events and their relevance to current events. I could be way off.

What are your thoughts?

Comments

  1. I like the observation of the parallel events of child sacrifice and God's moving. Good reminder that Satan is not omniscient. He does not know what God is doing, so it is natural that he would continue to make stabs in the dark.
